Mobilize not Miniaturize for your mobile customers. The mobile is a new way of connecting with your customers. It is not a smaller desktop! Unlike desktop web browsing where you can take time to search through a complex site, the average mobile user is looking to find a limited amount of information quickly! The experience is often functionally driven, A reaction to an alert, a need to check or respond beyond what an e-mail can do.
Speed clarity and natural flow define the mobile over breath of content. On the desktop the dashboard approach is powerful however on the mobile the function is key.
The three rules of Mobile
- Tell me where I am, what is urgent, update me, alert me, Status me!
- Warn Me what is coming up! Next actions and when? Show priorities
- Let me take action! and let me know it was complete
As I think about this the experience I use is pulling up to a gas station,
- The user hits the icon, the first screen is welcome to M-Gas at 1st and main, what pump are you at?
- You pull down the #4
- The payment is executed and the pump activated,
- You hang up the nozzle and you get a completion screen and e-mailed receipt
This is two screens and simple! What happens with the 5o9 solution is the send message on launch includes your user name and password as well as device info including GPS in our metadata stream. From there the service determines user and location then responds. The response can include payment data or M-gas can use info on file to approve and activate. When the pump is hung up the systems send completion and receipt. Simple and designed with the user in mind. Plus you can stay in your car for all but pumping the gas!
Convenience and the single action makes this a real and compelling user experience! I would drive the extra mile for this and not shop elsewhere!
