New Game, Mobile is a new tool, treat it so!

Mobilize not Miniaturize for your mobile customers. The mobile is a new way of connecting with your customers. It is not a smaller desktop! Unlike desktop web browsing where you can take time to search through a complex site, the average mobile user is looking to find a limited amount of information quickly! The experience is often functionally driven, A reaction to an alert, a need to check or respond beyond what an e-mail can do.

Speed clarity and natural flow define the mobile over breath of content. On the desktop the dashboard approach is powerful however on the mobile the function is key.

The three rules of Mobile

  1. Tell me where I am, what is urgent, update me, alert me, Status me!
  2. Warn Me what is coming up! Next actions and when? Show priorities
  3. Let me take action! and let me know it was complete

As I think about this the experience I use is pulling up to a gas station,

  • The user hits the icon, the first screen is welcome to M-Gas at 1st and main, what pump are you at?
  • You pull down the #4
  • The payment is executed and the pump activated,
  • You hang up the nozzle and you get a completion screen and e-mailed receipt

This is two screens and simple! What happens with the 5o9 solution is the send message on launch includes your user name and password as well as device info including GPS in our metadata stream. From there the service determines user and location then responds. The response can include payment data or M-gas can use info on file to approve and activate. When the pump is hung up the systems send completion and receipt. Simple and designed with the user in mind. Plus you can stay in your car for all but pumping the gas!

Convenience and the single action makes this a real and compelling user experience! I would drive the extra mile for this and not shop elsewhere!

Oh the places you will Go!

How well do you know your customers? For over a decade we have used the Web to reach customers for sales and service. Today more and more of those customers connect with us over the web using their mobile devices.

The idea behind 5o9 is the idea that the Web should know the person. It is the desire of every consumer to be known. A person who walks into a corner store or restaurant, having the store keep say hi is the ultimate experience. Mobile is the ultimate representation of the person, one does not share their phone easily and the industry has been trying to replace your wallet with the phone since it came out of your car.

5o9 enables you as vendors to know your customers, know their phone, where they are, know them. Marketers today have more data about their customers and tools to mine that data. Time is now to apply that data! Yes, cross sell and up sell and suggest like products! Then customize welcome pages and speed check out, then provide proactive customer service. Remember your customers and provide them the ultimate experience. You can now do that on the Mobile!

Communication is a two way street and 5o9 lets you communicate with your customers in a manner that reflects them. Dumping a stagnant native App on a customer is forcing them through a process that is pre determined and does not reflect your relationship with them. It is the assembly line of relationships! Don’t do that to your customers.

The truth is that for the web to know you the vendor must first care enough to get to know the customer and interact with them in a personalized manner.

So just like the old show Cheers, Say Hi Norm when he walks in and ask him if it will be the usual today!

Mobile, More than Advertising

Is your web service all about advertising or are you providing value to the users? Reading on new mobile technologies it is clear that many see mobile advertising with context (who, what, where) is the next frontier.

What does this do for Mobile services that are paid, to customers, or within the enterprise? Contrary to many  comments and spin there is only one “Web” we all use it for commerce of all types and information. The browser is the universal presentation layer and 5o9 works on that presentation layer to deliver content based the device, the user and other data that the user and service provider agree to share.

Yes what they agree to share! A service provider can deliver levels of service if they know more about a customer and a customer in the 5o9 solution decides what to share by service. The easy example is Location, the customer decides if they want to share their location with a service and can control that by interaction of globally for that service provider. This can be extended to any data and that data can be encrypted of not.

Interesting enough this capability is driving new thinking by marketers. We have accepted many compromises in exploration of the web on handheld devices but things are changing. Go to any tech blog and read about new standards evolving, new features, App stores… All have strengths and weaknesses but all require new skills from developers or IT departments. 5o9 does not!

You have invested time and money into a single App or a web service now it is time to extend that effort and begin to take incremental steps to delivering a richer more rewarding experience for you and your customer!
