One Open Platform – The Web

As part of the run up to Finnovate, many have asked for more info on 5o9. So here is an overview of our enabling solution. Based on interest at this point I see us part of many mobile strategies in this segment. We enable your web service and how far you take it is a result of your creativity.

Mobile banking is an essential service to customers and the market is driving innovation and multi-platform support. This is expensive and slow when developing one platform at a time. 5o9 enables not only multi platform extension of your efforts in a single development effort but does it using current in-house resources.

There are three elements of our solution:

  1. ) A small Data Base file and delivery App that runs in the browser of the mobile device
  2. ) A Server Side file based on Mod_Gzip (used today in nearly all web stacks) that delivers to the device content based on your customers Device Capabilities and customers profile.
  3. ) Plus MAGGIE – Our SaaS tool that can accelerate complex app development in support of a mobile app approach. Maggie will grow over time to support more as the market evolves.

The Web is the best way we all have to address cross-platform support. That is why the cloud, SaaS and self-service Web apps, such as search or online banking exist – it is a very efficient way to reach anyone with an Internet connection.  The Web is a PLATFORM, but it is a client-server platform (Web server/Web browser).  The server side and the client side are out of synch when it comes to mobile. Today solutions try to fix this with additional platforms and added code that only slows the communication.

We extend an OPEN platform (the Web) rather than trying to replace it or add new layers to it with a PROPRIETARY platform.

Our approach is unique as we re-align them by installing a little database and delivery app that uses the browser & HTTP to give the server side instructions about what to present to the requesting mobile device.

Our code is proprietary, but our approach is open, so people don’t have to change their behaviors or add new infrastructure. We don’t make the balls bounce, the logo spin or the video stream; we just let the Web server know if the device to which they are sending the content can handle the bouncing, spinning and streaming.

We work just like the Web.  Our software grabs the data from the database app and encrypts if specified.  It delivers the data to the Web server which decrypts it.  Web scripts send the data to a database or directly to the Web App (integration).  The Web app does its thing and sends the content back to the Web server.  The Web server delivers the App content to the mobile device via the browser. The Web app is now “smarter” or more accurately, “contextually aware” because it has more metadata

Cross-Platform/Multi-Platform:  Our communications app is already “multi-platform”.  Pick the versions (OSs) you want.  Maggie makes it easy to build the database app to each company’s specifications across the multiple mobile platforms that we support.

The ONLY thing we do in this standard Web process is add/encrypt/decrypt metadata. No more added overhead or dumbing down for a WAP.

New Markets, New Conversations 5o9

After some time in the online financial sector it is clear that mobile banking adds value to the user. Many solutions exist, many technologies used. App Stores are loaded with trading or banking Apps, some banks have more than one for a user to choose.

Today the conversations on Mobile are AIR, WAP, SMS, APP, HTML5, Android, Safari, Windows Mobile/7, Google, RIM, Opera. What does any of this have to do with Mobile Banking?  The answer is outside this developers mix. The single web uses HTTP, your company is not concerned with operating systems and developers acronyms.

As a service provider your concern is Presentation and Function which is why 5o9 works at the presentation layer. We draw information from the device and the user that allows you to communicate with your customer based on the capabilities of their device and as you and your customer determine not the technology.

I am looking forward to speaking with innovators in this segment at the Spring Finnovate in May.  I am eager to meet with any and all at the show. There are so many competitive companies and ideas being nimble is a requirement and 5o9 can help all.

While we are new here and not presenting this time we are looking forward to meeting with all. Please contact me at Timothy.Bates@5o9inc.com.

Why 509?

  1. Integration – Simple, clear integration solves huge problems customers are facing.
  2. Extend – Companies are trying to figure out how to extend what they have
  3. Incremental – Make changes/add functionality incrementally reflecting budgets and resources
  4.  No Behavior Changes – Don’t learn new things, managers not required to learn something new or change a process
  5. Role Based Personalization - Business policies are managed via Rules and roles. This is what personalization means to a non-consumer oriented business (or application).  The realization that with name, location & active ports you can control a security policy.
  6. Context – Customer problems are solved with unique business context. When you provide contextual data to the app, then you can deliver a more powerful solution to the user
  7. Mobilize vs. Miniaturize – Today customers have a number of devices from phones through laptops. Form factors and input devices change. 5o9 will allow you to present yourself at your best to all.

The answer is in the box, in your IT infrastructure, in your control.
